Annual Report from the European Commission

Annex 3:
Online Information on Telework and Related Topics

Section 1: European Telework Online

The European Telework Online web site at

http://www.eto.org.uk

is now the world's largest and busiest site focused on telework and related topics, with links to related sites in many languages and countries. Its aim is to provide employers, policy makers and teleworkers with access to useful and timely information and help. The site, which in June 1997 consisted of over 300 ‘pages’, is divided into several main sections:

A schematic outline of the site, giving URLs, is shown below. Table A3.1 shows an overview of the contents.

Started in Spring 1996, by mid-April 1997 over 5000 European citizens were regular users of the ETO site, and this is expected to grow to around 30,000 by year end 1997. The site also attracts a large international audience with regular users from nearly 50 countries and traffic growing at between 30-50% each month.

Linked with the site is an active e-mail-based discussion forum with around 400 subscribers representing some 40 countries, and an "announcements only" e-mail list with over 200 additional subscribers. ETO is also supporting or linked with similar online discussions in different languages, including French, Spanish, Italian and Danish. Emerging from the online discussion is a growing library of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers, one of the most popular aspects of the web site. Another particularly useful feature is the site's Open Access Calendar which allows event organisers to place details of their events directly into the calendar online.

The ETO site is at http://www.eto.org.uk. There are simple online forms for joining the discussion or announcement e-mail lists. Please address questions or problems to eto-info@eto.org.uk.
