Sweden Seminar: Teleworking for industrial safety 21 Oct. 1996, Stocholm Telecom Sec-tion of Swedish Union of Cleri-cal and Techn-ical Employees Covering the questions telework raises about the application of laws and rules concerning labour safety.
France Opening of Vercors Connect Telecentre, attended by the President and Vice President of the French Senate. 23 Oct. 1996, Vercors Vercors Connect Telecentre A wooden building in a ski resort with more than 16 temporary offices. Over 350 attendees. The Vercors is especially famous for the schools network Buissoniere run by François Bocquet and connecting over 20 schools via Lotus Notes.
Spain Roundtable on Internet and Telework 25 Oct. 1996, Madrid ARS During ARS Futura event.
Sweden Project presentation: IT-enabled work opportunities 28 Oct. 1996, Lindesberg Local authori-ties of Hälle-fors, Lindes-berg, Ljusnars-berg and Nora Cooperation between 4 local authorities on teleworking in the county of Örebro.
Denmark Publication of special edition of Digital (weekly IT and business section in Jyllands Posten) on teleworking 30 Oct. 1996 Jyllands Posten, Denmark’s big-gest selling quality news-paper, and Tele Danmark Consult Covering teleworking trends, opportunities and challenges in both Denmark and Europe with case studies, articles and comment, as well as the launch of the European Telework Development project.
Sweden IT conference: Myths, visions and opportunities for commerce and industry in town and rural areas 30-31 Oct. 1996, Vetlanda Institutet för Medieteknik, Riksföreningen för Elektronisk Kunskapsöver-föring  
France Conference and Exhibition Mobilities ´96 30-31 Oct. 1996, Paris Accent on Road Warriors and Cyber Pilgrims, and everything for the mobile executive with teleworking to the forefront. Closing ceremony by the French Minister of Posts and Telecoms, François Fillon.
 

 

Sweden

Project start-up of work opportunities programme Nov. 1996 County Council of Stockholm LISS (the County Council’s authority in the Stockholm archipelago) established a project providing 120 telework opportunities in the archipelago.
France Internet relay chat channel on Cyberworkers 3 Nov. 1996 & 10 Nov. 1996 Run by Cyril Slucki and Sylvie  
Italy Special issue on telework in Notiziario del Lavoro, a bimonthly magazine 4 Nov. 1996 This edition of the magazine of the Study Centre on Indus-trial Relations of Telecom Italia, was published free in both Italian and English, and included contributions from Mr. Bangemann (European Commission), Mr. Treu (Minister of Labour), and Mr. Properetti (National Council of Economy and Work).
Netherlands Nederlands Telework Prize (Nederlandse Telewerk Prijs) 4 Nov. 1996, Tilburg Nederlands Telework Forum: For the third time this prize was awarded to an outstanding Dutch telework project: this year to Telewerkcentrum Lochem, a business centre in a rural area for women wishing to re-enter the labour market. The programme also included keynote speakers, including a member of the Board of Interpolis, architect and designer Mr. Veldhorn, the Chair of the Prize Jury Mrs. van Beek (Ministry of Transport), and the Chair of the Dutch Telework platform Mrs. de Bruin. A lot of press coverage was obtained (including two radio specials), and a video of the event is available.
Sweden Seminar: Teleworking 4 Nov. 1996, Umeå Data Associa-tion in Umeå Including a videoconference connection to the Telework 96 Congress in Vienna.
Belgium Setting up of Belgian National Committee for ETW96 4-11 Nov. 1996 Belgium TeleWorking Association Comprising over 40 prominent representatives from business, academia and government, including the Belgian Prime Minister Dehaene.
Denmark Setting up of a consortium of interests to plan a Danish web-site on telework, teletrade and telecooperation, as well as a Danish interest group on teleworking. 4-11 Nov. 1996, Copen-hagen and Aarhus Freelance teleworker, Thomas Frovin Jensen, and Tele Danmark Consult Meetings between Thomas Frovin Jensen, Tele Danmark Consult, the Danish Association of Local Authorities and the Danish engineering trades union, with other public and private interests kept informed, including the Research and IT Ministry.
United Kingdom Open Days: WREN Telecottage 4-11 Nov. 1996, War-wickshire WREN Telecottage Demonstrations of equipment, an Internet Awareness Day, etc.
Netherlands Launch of book on telework: Vorm geven aan telewerk During ETW96 NIA (Dutch In-stitute of Work Environment) The book includes references and links to The Teleworking Handbook publishd by the TCA (UK) and Telework Ireland.
Spain SIMO Madrid Computer and Telematic Fair 4-11 Nov. 1996, Madrid Promoted by AET, Instituto de Ingenieria de España, Compaq Com-puters, Ciber-teca and Edito-res Associados. Including a special debate on teleworking in Spain (on telework and teletrade, the Vienna Congress, the new infolitic economy, and the reasons for change), concluding with a roundtable on access to telework.

France IDATE Conference 5-6 Nov. 1996, Paris IDATE The yearly event in France for everything on teleworking. Many international celebrities, including Jack Nilles the "father" of telecommuting. DGXIII were strongly represented.
Germany Seminar: Innovationsforum ‘96 5 Nov. 1996, Gladbeck Input by TA Telearbeit TA Telearbeit contributed with presentations on telework, telework technologies and live demonstrations of telecooperation in CAD/CAM environments.
Sweden Seminar: Teleworking and working hours 5 Nov. 1996 Swedish Union of Clerical and Technical Employees Videoconference between four Vattenfall sites: Trollhätten, Stockholm, Ringhals and Motala.
Belgium Seminar on Teleworking and SMEs 6 Nov. 1996, Brussels Belgium TeleWorking Association Organised jointly with Belgacom Telebusiness and the Chamber of Commerce of Brussels.

Belgium Reception to celebrate ETW96 7 Nov. 1996, Brussels Belgium TeleWorking Association Guest speakers were Elio Di Rupo (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Telecommunications and the Economy) and Jan Lamers (Managing Director of De Financieel-Economische Tijd.
Ireland Telework Ireland Conference 8 Nov. 1996, Shankhill, Co. Dublin Annual conference of the Telework Ireland association for members, researchers and others to discuss teleworking issues and network with each other. This year the twin themes were telecommuting and training for teleworkers.

United Kingdom TCA (Tele-Cottage Asso-ciation) Annual Conference: Teleworking UK 8-9 Nov. 1996, New Lanark, Scotland TCA: in con-junction with the Scottish Teleworkers Association (STA) and Clydesdale Telecentre. Covered a range of subjects applicable to teleworkers and corporates, and connected with other events around Europe via videoconferencing. The keynote speaker was Ian Lang, President of the Board of Trade.
France TV programme on teleworking 9 Nov. 1996 TSR and TV5 Programme dedicated to working at a distance and especially teleworking
Sweden Training: video-based training session 11 Nov. 1996, Mariestad IT-Studion i Mariestad Video-meeting between two comprehensive schools on telework.
Germany Open Day at TA Telearbeit 11 Nov. 1996, Glad-beck and Geilenkirchen TA Telearbeit For visitors who wish to discuss telework issues and the TA project project Virtual Office in NRW. Videconferencing links were also established.
Sweden Bangemann Challenge Seminar: Telework: challenge of the future 11 Nov. 1996, Stockholm Focusing on the current status of Bangemann Challenge projects covering telework, and a look to the future. The target group was both the public and private sector, with the aim of highlighting possibilities for the future and learning from the experience of cities throughout Europe.

 

Netherlands National Traffic Congestion Day, including conference 12 Nov. 1996 Dutch Traffic Ministry The Nederlands Telewerk Forum presented a booth during this event at which about 250 traffic coordinators participated.
Denmark TV feature on teleworking 13 Nov. 1996 Danmarks Radio 1 DR1 (Denmark’s main TV channel) transmitted a 5 minute feature on teleworking during the main 30 minute evening news broadcast.
Sweden Seminar: Real world Java computing 14-15 Nov. 1996, Lund and Stock-holm Sun Microsystems Covering Java, the new tool for tele-working and networking.
Sweden Seminar: Telework: the new way of working 15 Nov. 1996, Stockholm Telia AB In-house seminar addressed to managers in Telia.
Sweden Conference: Electronic tender-ing, home shopping, EDI and business via the Internet 19 Nov. 1996, Stockholm Dataförening i Sverige (Swedish Data Association)

Denmark Conference: Distance working 11 Dec. 1996 IDG Conference Group and PID (Personnel Managers in Denmark) Follow up to the successful first nationwide telework conference in Denmark in November 1995, with themes relating to productivity, flexibility and the work environment.
