European Telework Online: Advertising at the European Telework Online website and in other European Telework Online services Banner brokers and banner networks European Telework Online did not carry any external advertising or sponsorship until November 1999, when we introduced banners in a number of pages, using banner advertising brokers. During 1995-1999 we focused on developing the site into the world's largest resource for telework, telecommuting and related topics and deepening our understanding of the telework and telecommuting markets, audiences and issues. Currently (January 2000) we accept banner advertisements placed through three separate banner brokerages. We are using this activity to: Familiarise our user audiences with the presence of advertising on the site and gain feedback from their comments; Test the facilities and services provided by a range of competing brokerages, all of which are well established in their field; and Obtain background information (control data) about impression rates and click-through rates, as a basis for comparative assessment of our services for direct advertisers. In the near future, when we have gained sufficient experience, we will publish an initial report on this experience, which we anticipate will be of value to both advertisers and other host sites. Part of the report will be published in confidence on a non-disclosure basis.
