Current state in Latvia

The term ‘Telework’ is new for Latvian information society, not accepted by Latvian Terminology Commission and not widely used in technical documents. Terms like information system, corporate networks, distributed processing and so on are used more. However many Latvian information systems developing companies have been engaging in telework system designing and implantation without mentioning the term ‘telework’.

Some companies use corporate networks, distributed date bases and remote accessing as elements of telework systems. For instance, company RD (http://www.rd.lv) have headquarters, branch offices, stocks and shops around the world. But all of companies parts work in real-time mode using Internet and access to common date base.

In DATI (http://www.dati.lv) one can see another example of telework concept realization of information system. DATI is the information systems designing company which has branches  in Germany and Latvian little town - Valmiera. Programmer teams on distinct sites have been working out new information systems for customers as one team. Internet, corporate network, distributed date base and teleprocessing are used for this joint action.

But these companies and others also use the term ’’information system”  in the sense ‘telework system’. For this reason, the term ‘information system’ will be used in the following text.
