Socio-Economic Research
in and for FP4 and FP5

Meeting point and information exchange between RTD and TSER communities.

Rationale

FP5 proposals call for closer integration of technological RTD with the socio-economic context and policy development aspects of the Information Society. We anticipate a need for relevant socio-economic work and inputs directly within the IST programme, greater industrial and technology foresight inputs into TSER activities, and actvities to ensure greater cross-programme awareness of activities and results.

Outcome

The workshop should enable participants in the RTD and TSER programmes of FP4 to:

• gain a greater awareness of each others' environments and activities
• understand how to access information about ongoing work and results
• develop contact mechanisms that will facilitate strong and well targeted work in FP5

Content

• short overview presentations summarising work of a socio-economic nature undertaken and ongoing within ACTS, ESPRIT, TAP and TSER, and indicating sources for further, more detailed information
• short presentations from appropriate projects giving their views as to the socio-economic research and information priorities for FP5, particularly for 1999-2000
• discussion of possible ways to improve synergy and cross-fertilisation between the RTD and socio-economic communities
