European Telework Week: 4-11 November 1996
Country Report - Holland
Author - Kitty de Bruin, ETD National Coordinator, Holland.
In Holland there were a number of activities and events, centered on the
National Telework Annual Awards. The awards were sponsored by the Dutch
PTT (national telephone company, a division of KPN), the Ministry of Transport
and Interpolis (an insurance company). The final awards ceremony was held
on November 4.
Radio coverage included two special features and there was also a considerable
amount of national and local press coverage.
The winner of the National Annual Telework Award was Telewerkcentrum Lochem,
a business centre in a rural area, designed for women wanting to re-enter
the labour market, including facilities for skills training, and the buiness
centre finds companies to outsource work to the women.
The Telework Project prize went to Algemeen Dagblad, a newspaper,
which has developed a world-adapter, and now the newspaper's journalists
are able to send the latest news immediately from every location in the
world by e-mail.
The prizes were awarded in the new flexible work-environment of Interpolis,
which has introduced desksharing (1100 desks for 1500 people) and they have
built the infrastructure so that people can work from home or from the flexible
office.
The Telework Awards were organised by the Nederlands Telework Forum and
a video was made of the nominated organisations.
