European Telework Week: 4-11 November 1996

Events Compendium For ETW96

The 2nd European Telework Week, 4-11 November 1996 - will build on last year's success to achieve even wider public attention. Events and activities pioneered in 1995 will act as role models for ETW '96. Organisations in every part of Europe have already indicated their support to international, regional, national and local events and activities. With European Commissioner Martin Bangemann accepting the role of "patron" for European Telework Week, there's no doubt that the European Commission's most senior executives are putting their full support behind the many telematics/teleworking initiatives across Europe.

This document lists the events, per country. Please do notice that the conference Telework Deutschland '96 is rescheduled at 11 - 13 November, 1996. ETW '96 provides opportunities for everyone who has an interest in telework - employers, teleworkers, unions, suppliers of telework technologies and services, policy makers and environmentalists.

DENMARK

Two main initiatives during European Telework Week 1996:

1. Publication of a special edition of "Digitalt" (a weekly IT, business and mangement section in Denmark's leading quality newspaper Jyllands Posten) covering teleworking trends, opportunities and challenges in both Europe and Denmark, and the launch of the new ACTS project ETD (European Telework Development).

2. Planned announcement of final agreement by a consortium of interests to establish a Danish website devoted to teleworking, teletrade and telecooperation before the end of 1996, linked to the European Telework Online (ETO) site and the ETD project. The group behind this is expected to include, subject to confirmation, Tele Danmark Consult, Tele Danmark Internet (who will provide server space and technical back-up), the Danish Research Ministry (responsible for IT, telecoms and information society issues in Denmark), the Association of Danish Local Authorities, DJOF (Danish Association of Lawyers and Economists) and Thomas Frovin Jensen (free-lance teleworker, ETD Danish National Coordinator, and proposed web-master)

ETW '96 in Denmark is being used to kick-off a number of other initiatives which will run over subsequent months, before the end of 1996 the establishment of an informal Danish Telework Interest Group, before the end of 1996 the publication by the Research Ministry of the first authoritative survey of both the existing and potential incidence of telework in Denmark, at the beginning of December 1996 a high-level two day conference on 11-12 December 1996 in Copenhagen bringing together Danish and European experts, and sponsored by the IDG Conference Group.

All the above initiatives and events will take place in Danish.

Losheim am See

"We are preparing some activity for the ETW related to our project CAFE MONDIAL and the TEN-TELECOM project "Euro-ISDN as a platform for teleworking" coordinated by TELES AG Berlin, of which we have become a subcontractor.

We have recently bought an office in the center of the rural and tourist village Losheim am See, which is just being refurbished into a rural CAFE MONDIAL providing information, communication, teleworking, and teletraining facilites for the general public and for SMEs in the region. The centre will be opened at the beginning of November, and we plan an Open House. The Minister of Economics and Finance of the Saarland, Christiane Krajewski, will open the centre. We would be very happy to link to other events via videoconferencing and computer-conferencing. We will also kick-off the validation phase of our project. One of the major research tasks will be to look into legal and social aspects of teleworking across Europe, with a focus on on-line publishing."
