European Telework Week 1995:

Scottish Telework Association

Official Launch of the Scottish Teleworking Association

Following the first full steering committee meeting in Perth recently, the Scottish Teleworking Association (STA) is now being officially launched to coincide with European Telework Week. The STA aims to provide a focus for all teleworking activities in Scotland and will be fully operational early in 1996.

The key objectives of the STA are to :-

  1. Substantially increase the number of companies and individuals within Scotland practising teleworking in order to :-
a)Allow workers in Scotland more flexibility in their working practices especially in terms of work location, working hours and choice of employer.
b)Ensure that the Scottish business community takes advantage of the cost savings resulting from the adoption of teleworking so as to improve the competitiveness of Scottish companies.
c)Help to bring about environmental benefits within Scotland.

  2. Act as a voice to raise the level of awareness in respect of the potential economic, social and environmental benefits arising from the use of teleworking.

  3. Promote Scotland as being a leading country in the adoption of teleworking, flexible working methods and global communications helping to establish Scotland as a progressive, pro-active technology leader within Europe.

  4. Help to provide work opportunities to a wide range of disadvantaged persons who have much to offer the business community.
The STA will keep members, and potential teleworkers, appraised of developments in the field of teleworking by means of a regular newsletter and a comprehensive telephone help-line service. In addition, it is hoped to operate a 'work bureau' service helping to match work opportunities to the skills and experience of Scottish teleworkers. The STA itself operates on teleworking principles with steering committee members and administration staff located throughout Scotland. The Association will be seeking to recruit new members, and regional representatives, from early 1996.
