European Telework Development (ETD)
ETD and the Developers of Future Technologies and Services
One of the primary purposes of the ETD Initiative is to foster exchanges
between the developers of future technologies and services having potentially
an application in, or any other kind of impact on, telework,
teletrade, telecooperation,
and between these developers and the market place at large.
The initial focus is on research and development projects carried out under
the Advanced Communications Technologies and Services (ACTS) programme of
the European Commission, forming together the ACTS
Telework Chain in order to implement an Internal Concertation
mechanism.
The Chain has also an External Concertation agenda, whereby other EU supported
initiatives are gradually being included in the process, such as :
- the Telematics Applications Programme (TAP)
- the ESPRIT programme
- DG V (Employment) concerns and initiatives
- DG VIII (Transport) and DG XI (Environment) transport substitution
issues
- DG XVI (Regional Policy) concerns with regional development and cohesion
- DG I (External Relations) links with Central & Eastern Europe
- developing the Fifth Framework Programme
Furthermore, the ETD initiative comprises several technology 'outreach'
programmes targeted at specific audiences across the economy and community:
ETD has in place a strong information dissemination mechanism, consisting
basically of:
- the European Telework Online communication
network
- a public media communication function
- the development of a telework information database
ETD's stated goal is to move the European agenda on telework from
research and discussion to action and implementation, and it is therefore
seen as central that links are made between the developers and all other
market actors and influencers and that these should be made fully aware
of the enabling and facilitating roles of the new and emerging technologies.
How to get in touch and participate
We welcome participation by all projects and organizations involved in developing
telework-related technologies and services, at both the European and local
levels.
