Please note: we do not provide assistance or support for any online discussion environments listed here, only for the ETO Discussion List and the ETO Announcement List. If you have difficulties please contact the relevant list owners or ask for help within the lists concerned!

Discussion Lists With Some Relevance To Telework

The European Commission's Information Society Project Office (ISPO) provides a discussion list for those interested in European and general aspects of the Information Society. Traffic in this list has tailed off since its opening in 1996 and ISPO itself appears not to be using the list as an announcement vehicle.

Team IT, the special interest group for those interested in computer-supported collaborative working, provides a discussion list of news and comments on all aspects of online group working, groupware etc.

The Global Highways Business Group supports a discussion list on information highways and networked economy matters, with a separate news and announcements list.

The CCTA (The UK Government's Centre for Information Systems) provides a range of "Collaborative Open Groups" for online discussion of Information Society matters.

CSCW-Scotland is a mailing list endeavouring to address this linkage between CSCW and teleworking. As part of our strategy to encourage closer liaison between industry and academia, it is promoted to industry including SMEs and teleworkers throughout Scotland. Information on this CSCW list is available at the following website: http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists-a-e/cscw-scotland/

E.COMMERCE TODAY is a subscription-based newsletter. The subtitle of this weekly electronic publication is "The Newsletter of Internet-Based Electronic Commerce and Business Strategy".

How to Find Discussion Lists

These are some sites that help people to find discussion lists relevant to their interests: The List of Lists (MIT) - claims to be the "definitive" list for UESnet newsgroups. Sorted by hierarchy - .comp, biz. etc.

Reference.Com - is an excellent way of finding email lists and newsgroups.

Listserv Discussion Groups - a listing of email based lists indexed by description, name, subject, and also a list of "most popular" lists.

Liszt: Searchable Directory of e-Mail Discussion Groups - may be the most comprehensive, around 25,000 entries last time we looked.

The Mailbase server carries a very wide range of discussion lists, generally supporting UK-based academic or not-for-profit organisations and topics.

You can also get announcements of new lists by subscribing to NEW-LIST. TO join send an email to

new-list@vml.nodak.edu

with this message text:

sub NEW-LIST your name
(where your name is replaced by your own name, of course!)
