In every one of these measures the USA doesn’t have only a little more than Europe - they have twice as much. Its common to regard this as being a short lead, on the basis that the technology is new and Europe is perhaps a few years behind but will catch up.
That just isn’t true. What stands out particularly is that the USA not only has a higher investment today - twice as much - but continues to invest much more, year on year. So if anything the gap between Europe and the USA in these basic technologies of the Information Society is widening rather than narrowing.
